Whatever we enthrone occupies the centre of our attention and approach to life.
When we look at this corner of the world it's clear to see, if you have eyes to see it, what has been enthroned.
But what if it could be otherwise?
What if, instead of only enthroning the simplicity of our opinions, we enthroned the complexity of the situation?
What if, instead of enthroning rigidity and dogma, the ossification of our convictions, we enthroned a suppleness and fluidity in our thinking?
What if, instead of only enthroning what we see, we enthroned the certainty that we see very little?
What if, instead of only enthroning our abstract and theoretical maps, we enthroned the very real and mundane territory that no maps can capture?
What if, instead of only enthroning certainty and knowing, we enthroned curiousity and learning? What if wonder became more important to us that rigid convictions?
What if, instead of only enthroning our answers (or the thought that a final one can ever be found), we enthroned the capacity to craft and keep asking questions so well wrought that they could survive any degree of questioning?
What if we enthroned not so much what we approach but the manner in which we approached it?
And what if, instead of enthroning a binary approach to everything, including these notions above, the throne itself was understood as the third thing and that this third thing was, in fact, the doorway into seeing the fourth, fifth, dozenth, hundredth and thousandth things... the staggering diversity of the world?
What if the throne was not the one, true thing itself, but the way out of the prison of our needing 'the one, true thing' (singular, true and lonely)?
What if this throne could be shared, a different sovereign on it each day - each one appropriate to its time and place?
Yay! Such a meaningful way for us all to engage. Thank you Tad.
Ah, yes, suppleness and fluidity - such yumminess!! I've taken on "flexible" as my middle name to help in the melting of the rigidity from the programming in my tissues ... I'm considering replacing it with one of those!
